This project is for the conversion of four existing Georgian buildings, three of which are Grade II Listed, previously used as offices by Southwark Council, to provide 125 rooms of affordable student accommodation for University of the Arts London. The flexible approach of the client and design team has produced a scheme that largely reinstates original spaces and remaining features to provide a diverse range of accommodation. In addition, by taking a cooperative and flexible approach to discussions with English Heritage and the Conservation Officer, PJMA has achieved permission for a carefully considered contemporary extension to one of the Listed buildings provides modern and fully accessible rooms and defines a new external garden space enhancing the relationship between existing buildings.
