Sited in Greenbelt land, New Build
Pace Jefford Moore Architects LLP
W.203 , Vox Studios , 1-45 Durham Street , London , SE11 5JH , United Kingdom
DPA were commissioned to design this 3200m2 speculative office building on this unique site on the outskirts of Egham, Surrey. The project was to replace an unremarkable collection of inefficient existing buildings sprawled out across this Historic Landscape in the Greenbelt, consolidating the built area in to a single, highly-efficient, modern office building. In the face of rapidly shifting legislation, DPA sought to develop an enduring and flexible asset for our Client. This involved the adoption of sustainable construction strategies and planning for versatility from the project's inception. The building's orientation, envelope and construction was optimised to limit solar gain, provide good natural illumination, high insulation values, thermal mass and air-tightness. This obviated the requirement for on-site renewable energy generation. The building is designed to cater for a number of different service strategies, recognising that this is likely to change over the lifetime of the building fabric. The building has been clad in GRC panels and anodised aluminium that respectively reflect the formal nature of the site, yet compliment the natural hues of the large existing tree species. The extensive landscape has been widely restored and a new formal garden installed. The building and site are sustainably drained.
