DPA were appointed to complete the detailed design of Hazeley School in Milton Keynes. This project is phase 1 of a 3 phase development, which will provide progressive, modern education facilities for 1500 students as well as additional community facilities. Phase 1 is for the 2-storey, main core of the school, which includes classrooms, laboratories, sports, dining and LRC facilities. Individual elements of the design are distinguished using a number of different materials including timber cladding, insulated render and brickwork, which reduces the scale of the building on its greenfield site. The school is naturally ventilated using a variety of displacement and stack systems and incorporates a sustainable drainage system for the entire site. The tight time scale also led to the use of prefabricated curtain wall panels for the classroom wing to allow early commencement of fitting out works.
