The project is for a new low carbon sensitive accommodation block and shrine in a remote corner of rural Devon. The accommodation block is a timber frame structure using Green Douglas Fir and is designed to high U-value and air tightness standards. This element is nearly finished. The Community wanted to reduce its reliance on oil and we facilitated a log bio mass boiler as they have a ready source of seasoned logs on their door step. Part of the project involved the community building element themselves and there was constant negotiations to ensure that this was feasibly whilst maintaining the requirement of CDM. Phase two will be a straw bale building again with a green Douglas Fir Cruck frame.
