New Build
OWL Architects has been involved with the Greensleeves Homes Trust(a charitable care provider) for many years; undertaking major extension and refurbishment projects across the east, south east and midlands. Improvement and extension works have been ongoing to their Broadland's home for several years culminating in the major refurbishment of the original building. Additional bedrooms all with ensuite facilities were provided at three floor levels and new staff, welfare and managerial accommodation was created at the front of the building. The kitchen was completely remodelled and additional food storage, wash up, servery and cold room spaces were provided within the existing envelope. Extensions were also made to the side of the property including a new laundry, day room and a dining room with outstanding views over the nearby Broads. The building is largely of traditional cavity wall construction on mass concrete footings supporting a suspended beam and block floor. The main roof extension roof is of hand cut timber covered with Cambrian slate whilst that of the day room is of more modern trussed rafter construction. The new Dining Room roof is of lead with a centrally mounted roof light supported on a series of cranked steel beams.
