The dwellings have been built to ensure they are sustainable and have a minimal impact on the surrounding environment. The new houses and apartments have a ‘Very Good’ Eco Homes rating. The distinctive butterfly roofs, cedar boarding and coloured render walls of this new housing development add a spark to the regeneration of Chatham Maritime. In addition to the River Medway and Chatham Maritime Marina, the Island incorporates over 20 acres of open space with footpaths and cycle paths linking to the wider community. There is also a community centre, doctors’ surgery and a primary school located on the Island.
