This scheme saw the removal of the rendered extension to the rear of the house, and the addition of a larger extension in its place. The new extension is clad in natural stone to match the existing walls, with reclaimed clay double Roman tiles on the roof. The aesthetic of the new extension is sympathetic to the existing house in both style and materials. The extension allowed for a rearrangement of the internal layout, which added an extra bedroom, creating a five-bedroomed house with a much larger kitchen appropriate to the size of the house. The heating system in the house is a sustainable and efficient system, incorporating solar thermal panels to provide hot water, a ground source heat pump running radiators in the existing house and underfloor heating in the proposed new extension. The energy efficient design and heating system will significantly reduce the environmental footprint of the building.
