Listed Building - Grade II, Sited in AONB, Within a Conservation Area
Our proposal for a catering academy and restaurant building in Kirkleatham walled garden aims to create a magical destination generated by the layering of tradition and modernity. We have taken inspiration from the splayed triangular paths of historic walled garden landscape layouts and the seeds, flowers, and leaf forms of organic renewal. The floating triangular roof and glass enclosure is set within the historic walls but does not touch them. The freestanding building means that it can be viewed, entered and experienced from different angles, in keeping with the multiple entry points and fluid circulation of the garden. It is distinctive and contemporary, while maintaining transparency through which the walled garden can be viewed.
