This small apartment explores how spatial generosity and adaptability can be created within a compact footprint. A functional flexibility, and the use of natural light and timeless materials, has resulted in an apartment that maximizes the perception and enjoyment of space. Careful planning and elegant detailing accommodate the multiple activities of living and working. A limited palette of natural materials – sandstone, veined basalt, wood and polished plaster – reinforces a cohesive series of spaces. A long vista has been opened up along the external wall and full-height mirrors multiply space and reflect light. Details emphasize the flexibility of the connected areas: the stone-clad kitchen counter can be slid open and expanded, a drop-down table creates an additional dining or work area, and full-height timber and mirror doors can be opened or closed to alter privacy levels when guests come to stay.
