Ravenscourt House is a converted home that merges deconstructivist elements with a classic house to create a warm and playful home through contemporary design. The private property was first classified as a Building of Merit in 1989 siting within the Conservation Area of Ravenscourt & Starch Green. The property was originally formed by two individual units: flat A - located at the ground floor with entrance on the driveway comprises of three bedrooms, one kitchen and one bathroom and the garden; flat B - situated at first floor with access on the main road comprises of one en-suite bedroom, three-bedroom, one kitchen and one family bathroom. There were no party walls nor fences dividing the backyard between the two flats and the neighbouring property. The main purpose of the Ravenscourt House project was to combine two apartments into one single home to accommodate four bedrooms and a 40m2 extension towards the garden. The new home was designed around a young family in order to meet the needs of the parents and of the kids. The client envisioned a playful and innovative home, and Omnide delivered. Juxtaposition and innovation were crucial concepts for the design of the project. Omnide exposed existing textures such as the original bricks walls, thus creating contrast with the new features such as the beams, skylights and concrete walls. Omnide intent was to merge the conservation with innovation. This was achieved by preserving the historical features of the building such as brick walls typical of the British heritage, and contrasting them with aluminium walls inspired by a deconstructive geometry. The interior design followed the same approach - elements such as the fireplace, showcase the material in its most natural state and contrast with the bright red steel beams. Through the contemporary design of Ravenscourt House, Omnide wanted to highlight the existing shell and the new extension. An equally important concept was to create a connection between the exterior and the interior by setting large sliding doors and a skylight within the extension. This allowed to maximise natural light and create a point of contact with nature.
