The college had received funding to upgrade the special needs department. The existing building was in a dilapidated state. A main link corridor ran through the building.. The college viewed the corridor as a poor quality space. They wanted a corridor with a design statement and at the same time wanted to provide a more suitable environment for the special need students. Like all education work the ambitious project needed to be completed in the summer holiday. A traditional procurement route was chosen, however a contractor help with the pricing. This helped the College as they knew that they had at least one tender which fell within their budget. When tenders where received the margin of spread within the prices was with 4% The project was designed using a Building information Model (Revit) which help with the cost build up and produced photo realistic images of the space to be built. The project has been a great success for the College and the Students.
