A new double sports hall with ancillary rooms including a fitness suite and classrooms, built on the site of the current hard surfaced games areas, consistent with the proposals developed in the masterplan developed for the school. Sport is very important to the school’s ethos and the development will enable them to continue to develop and provide a wide range of sports both inside and outside of school hours, enhancing the school’s site and facilities. The new sports complex contains the following: sports hall; offices; classrooms; dance studio; squash courts; a fitness suite. The project also included the removal of the temporary buildings, the creation of a new classroom block and re-landscaping of the site. The lower level is constructed of fair face “self-coloured” blockwork and the upper level is render above the ancillary spaces with a Longspan cladding panel to the sports hall. The toughened glass canopy is supported by a galvanized steel frame and the main roof finish is aluminium standing seam, with rooflights to provide light into the main hall and the back of the classrooms. The development’s scale is generated from national guidance from Sport England on the size of sports halls and guidance from different sports governing bodies.
