New Build, Listed Building - Grade II
N V B Architects , Rook Lane Chapel , Bath Street , FROME , Somerset , BA11 1DN , United Kingdom
Backing onto the listed Cedars Cottage, a former coach house and stables, the school had identified a need to provide a primarily maths teaching block. The education delivery was being undertaken in several temporary classroom blocks dotted across the site in various locations, and as such whilst having provided the spaces to deliver top class teaching it was obvious that these temporary blocks did not provide the adequate environment in order to reinforce the delivery of the high standard 21st century curriculum. The accommodation within the new teaching block consists of the following: 6 No. maths classrooms, 1 No. general classroom, 1 No. IT design technology classroom, quiet rooms for each year group, staff room, maths store, cleaner’s room, server room, associated WC provision and plant room. Lockers for the year groups are spread throughout the building. Although predominantly for the delivery of the maths curriculum, the flexibility of the space is designed such that the delivery of the curriculum can be undertaken in any of the classes, apart from the specific IT room. The areas involved in delivering each of the required rooms have been calculated in accordance with Building Bulletin 98 and in close liaison with the school and end users. The classroom provision ranges between 56m2 and 66m2, with the specialised IT classroom requiring greater area.
