New Build
This scheme comprises five detached dwellings built on the site of a former public house. The dwellings were conceived as a series of long narrow gable ended forms lined up along the river frontage to reflect the boathouse typology found along parts of the river. The grey horizontal cladding to the upper storey continues this association. Due to the risk of flooding the ground floors were raised well above predicted flood levels and space below is provided for flood water storage (to prevent water from being displaced). These dwellings have open-plan ground floors and decked areas which take full advantage of views across Stourbridge Common. The gable ended forms are staggered along the street frontage to create an interesting interface with its suburban context and to allow oblique views out via corner windows.
