New Build
Our brief was to design a sustainable high-quality contemporary dwelling for a private client which would replace a 1950’s house on the edge of the village. The main building is made up of three interlocking gable forms linked to a garage wing and pool block set in a courtyard arrangement to one side. The three gable volumes are offset from each other to provide a central projecting bay at the front and recessed bay at the rear. A symmetrical plan was developed with a feature helical staircase set within a double height entrance lobby. The internal layout lends the house an association with the eighteen century country house typology. A limited palette of materials was selected to provide a sense of place and materiality within this semi-rural location comprising grey weathered brick, dark grey powder coated composite windows and pre-patinated black zinc for the roof. Sustainable features include air-source heat pumps, PV panels and a green roof (above the swimming pool).
