After being invited to tender for the provision of architectural services for a new community hub, NORR was appointed by Newmains Community Trust to design their £2m new build community centre. NORR worked closely with the Trust to create a brief, which in turn led to successful negotiations with North Lanarkshire Council to incorporate housing offices and a library. The remaining accommodation included a community café, IT suite, large multipurpose hall, meeting rooms, youth centre and offices. The form of the building recognises the local vernacular and offers a simple brick building with pitched slate roof whilst presenting a modern solution to the local community. The building curves between two main roads offering a pedestrian link and focal point to Newmains Town Centre, the large glazed frontages and landscaped seating areas offer a civic presence to the high street which underlines the building’s use.
