New Build
Suite 1A, Skypark 5 , 45 Finnieston Street , Glasgow , G3 8JU , United Kingdom
On an elevated site, the existing Maryhill Health Centre contained four GP practices and a range of community-related health services including dental health, podiatry, physiotherapy and pharmacy. With the poor fabric of the building and restricted space, the previous building was barely fit for purpose and not suitable for the provision of 21st-century health and social care services. The new building sought to reshape services from a patients’ point of view with health services designed around the needs of patients and clients through co-operation between patients, their carers and families and NHS staff: between the local health and social services: between the public sector, voluntary organisations and other providers to ensure a patient-centred service. The Centre was designed to provide clear orientation, wayfinding and ease of movement for both members of the public and staff. Central to the design of was creating a clear and pleasant environment for both staff and patients; the building is bright, welcoming and legible. Like the patient experience it was important that the design provided a comfortable and inspiring place for staff to work which will also increase operational efficiencies through well planned adjacencies. Waiting areas have good natural day light and although waiting for each practice is within clearly defined areas there are views to activity in the main circulation, foyer, waiting areas below and both entrances.
