Redevelopment of the West side of historic College Square, Bristol. The site is adjacent the Grade 1 listed library and Bristol Cathedral. A high standard of design was demanded by the location. The school did not want a modern image, being a very long established Cathedral School, and chose a traditional, contextual style. The Planners insisted that the detailing of the elevations was not pastiche, hence window sub-frames are solid oak, the render is 'thrown', stonework features are dressed Bathstone, the roof finish is Welsh Slate. The accommodation includes: A multi purpose performance space, a suite of music practice rooms, a recording studio, composing suite, new school library and IT studio and six English classrooms, all built over an undercroft playground.
