Monsell Road is an extension to a terraced house in London, creating a new kitchen and garden. The scheme cuts underneath the existing first floor and extends sideways into a redundant passageway at the side of the building. The resulting kitchen has a side passageway of light that casts a block of light which moves along the wall during the day marking out the time like a clock. The back wall opens completely with its system of folding and sliding doors. The garden was designed as an extension to the kitchen, with a changing brick wall wrapping the space. This results in the garden seeming to be part of the space. This project was completed while Pippa Nissen was partner at Nissen Adams.
