The scheme for this Grade 2 Listed Building reinvents the space previously organized as a residential care home with a new mixed-use development for HQ offices for The Wilsher Group, high performance and training advisors. 13 suited bed-&-breakfast guest bedrooms presented us with challenges for a design strategy to meet flexible and adaptable requirements for a mixed-use enterprise, as well as deliver a building with diverse functions at its core. Structural engineering solutions assisted reinvention of the space for contemporary alterations to the entrance, dining and welcome spaces that lead to other areas, which have been sensitively reconfigured, strengthened and rationalized to meet the full requirements of the Listed Buildings Officer. Demolition of the conservatory and construction of a contemporary structural glass and stone garden/reception/performance room, for which planning has been given, will shortly be carried out at the rear to transform the appearance of the building in context with it’s beautiful setting in the Monkton valley and newly landscaped gardens.
