Alteration to existing property, Listed Building - Grade II, Within a Conservation Area
York Street is a four storey property with basement in the Portman Estate Conservation Area, Westminster. The building is Grade II listed and contains internal historic features, including cornices, fireplaces as well as retaining its original plan forms. Working with these valuable historic elements, Nick Baker Architect's have gained listed building consent for the use of the building as 10 self-contained flats for rental. The enhancement and preservation of the historic characteristic of the building was key to creating a successful residential environment with all the expected amenities of contemporary living. This was further enhanced through the appropriate use of finishes that reflected the market requirement and met the practicalities of the everyday. Nick Baker Architect's worked directly with talented individuals working in interior design to achieve this balanced historic aesthetic. The finished facilities paired muted pink and green tones with taupe fabrics and flooring to achieve a subtle and sophisticated look. Amplified with mid-century design classics the calm interiors were enhanced by careful integrated lighting elements. Large historic windows are dressed for both privacy and warmth with colour contrasts which draw the eye to the delicate surrounding details.
