Laureate Gardens, an Aged Living development consisting of 33 market units and 12 key worker apartments, forms a health and social well-being campus at the heart of Henley on Thames. The design is strongly focused on quality hard and soft landscaping, both to private gardens and communal amenity and circulation areas. At the heart of the scheme a large terraced courtyard is created, utilizing the natural slope of the site to create secured undercroft car parking below. The quality of the landscaped areas are borne of Nick Baker Architect's passion for placemaking in landscape led aged living developments. The market units are situated in three Grade II listed and curtilage listed historic buildings first constructed in 1790, comprising a former Workhouse, Infirmary and School, alongside a new build block. The layout and interior design of each townhouse within the historic buildings is bespoke, developed to enhance the historic features, proportions and setting of the buildings, whilst providing contemporary, open plan, living areas. The new build element of the development, provides a contemporary counterpoint to its neighbors, with floor to ceiling glazing. The proportions, grammar and materiality, however, borrow heavily from the surrounding historic buildings. Large terraces to the penthouse floors provide unrivaled views over the Thames valley below.
