Reconfiguration and extension of an existing kitchen/dining and utility area with a basement storage area to create a larger space with improved connection to the rear garden of the property. The existing space was poorly planned and had low levels of natural light. We created a side return extension lit by a large glazed rooflight, extended the kitchen/dining area and provided a new stair connection down to the converted basement which houses the utility room and TV/games room. Full height sliding/folding doors opened up the rear of the house to provide views onto the garden. The project was technically challenging in part due to the structural work involved and overcoming the low floor to ceiling height. A coffered ceiling detail was adopted, which disguises the steelwork downstands and the extract for the island hob. Alongside minimalist white finishes and clean lines there is a greater impression of space.
