Niche Design were asked to progress the detailed design of a large extension to this Victorian Villa in Horsforth, Leeds. The new space features a split level garden and dining room which connects the house with the steeply sloping garden which has been terraced to form external paved areas. Surrounded by mature trees and planting the high levels of privacy the garden enjoys allowed the extension to be predominantly glazed enabling the occupants to enjoy views out and maximum levels of natural light, further enhanced by two roof lanterns. The slim stone surrounds to the glazing disguise a steel structure which was necessary due to the overall height of the building and the large glazed panels. The interior of the extension is contemporary and minimalist with white walls and light ceramic tiles and a frameless glass balustrade to the staircase. The lower level of the extension at garden level has large sliding/folding doors which enable the full width of the elevation to be opened up to the new terrace
