Richmondshire
£100,000 to £249,999
The project involved the conversion of a field barn for private clients within a stunning location on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The site's location meant that the external materials and appearance of the barn were tightly controlled by the local planning authority, although more design freedom was permitted within the interior, with an open plan two storey space, mezzanine gallery and a double bedroom within a single storey extension. The open plan layout and double height space within the barn maximises the feeling of space, and the original features have been retained and exposed where possible, complemented with contemporary fixtures and fittings. Oak joinery has been used throughout including a bespoke staircase and entrance door. Natural stone flooring has been used throughout the ground floor in conjunction with underfloor heating. The thermal fabric of the building has been dramatically improved, with highly insulated new elements including the windows and doors. The project also features sustainable drainage and an air source heat pump. The barn conversion was self built (literally!) by the clients who are currently completing the external works.
