Pennycroft sits on a 1.2 acre secluded site in the heart of Grimms Hill, Great Missenden, an area of ‘Special Character’ and ‘Little Change’. The area is dominated by Arts and Crafts houses and through detailed research of the local vernacular, as well as more prominent examples of Arts and Crafts houses by Sir Edward Lutyens and William Morris. We have been able to articulate the facade to create a contemporary reflection of the Arts and Crafts house, which will be a highly crafted design. The new proposal is pulled to the front of the site and in line with the neighbouring properties to maximise the rear garden. The 400m2, L-shaped plan comprises of a main house linked to a rear lower pavilion which will be a space of tranquillity away from the open plan space of the main house. The facade will be constructed from a brick base with large pocket windows broken by vertical timber fins. The upper level will be a continuous line of timber fins with glass and timber infills, with a clay tiled roof, the detailing is to be simplistic and elegant. The images above show the original concept model, Planning approval has been granted and Pennycroft is under construction due for completion September 2016.
