Sited in AONB, Within a Conservation Area, Alteration to existing property
Burnside House , Hexham Business Park , Burn Lane , Hexham , Northumberland , NE46 3RU , United Kingdom
MWE Architects provided design services and full contract administration for the conversion of a traditional stone barn at Priestfield House in Burnopfield, transforming a redundant agricultural structure into a contemporary rural home. The project retains the building’s robust stone envelope, repairing original masonry and introducing new slate roofing, timber doors and slimline glazing that respect the historic character. Inside, the design contrasts solid stone walls with light, open living spaces, featuring exposed trusses, oak floors and sliding doors to the courtyard. The result is a sensitively adapted dwelling that preserves the barn’s heritage while delivering generous modern accommodation rooted in its landscape.
