Alteration to existing property, Listed Building - Grade II, Listed Building - Grade II*, Within a Conservation Area
Burnside House , Hexham Business Park , Burn Lane , Hexham , Northumberland , NE46 3RU , United Kingdom
The project involved the refurbishment and fit-out of a Grade II listed Flemish Renaissance–style building in Manchester’s St Ann’s Square Conservation Area. MWE Architects provided design services to adapt the early-1900s property for Manchester Building Society’s new flagship branch, creating a welcoming ground-floor customer space, flexible community-use meeting rooms in the basement and new head-office accommodation on the first floor. The scheme sensitively integrates modern services within the constraints of the listed fabric, preserving historic detailing while introducing contemporary elements with a restrained, complementary approach. The result is a revitalised heritage asset that supports banking, workspace and community use.
