Gateway Studio is a dance and performing arts charity based in a historic Grade I listed building in central Gateshead. Supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the project aims to revitalise the Trinity Centre as a hub for arts, heritage and community activity, including new heritage interpretation and a café to support long-term sustainability. MWE Architects provided architectural services for the scheme, developing a contemporary pavilion along the frontage and reimagining the dated interiors to create flexible spaces for dance and related arts. The design contrasts the permanence of the historic fabric with the lighter, more ephemeral character of the new interventions.
