This new medical centre has been designed to replace the existing Ongar War Memorial Hospital, which currently stands on the site in Ongar, Essex. The existing hospital built in the 1930s was no longer meeting the requirements of the local community and current design standards. The new medical centre will accommodate two GP surgeries, a dental practice and multiple primary care facilities such as physiotherapy and podiatry. An important element of the design was incorporating existing materials and memorial stones from the old hospital building. Reclaimed bricks and the display of the original Ongar War Memorial name stone are both incorporated into the new design to act as a new memorial, constructed from Irish blue limestone. Internally spaces are designed around a central courtyard to maximise natural light and views, creating a modern new facility.
