Set overlooking Killary Harbour and the Atlantic, and surrounded by the 12 Ben Mountains on all other sides, the site in Connemara was dramatic and challenging to design on, in terms of planning restrictions and weathering. Our clients Brief was to design a family home that related to and addressed the site. The 3 storey steel frame building is multi facetted, allowing the weather to stream around it, likewise the standing seam roof is an aerodynamic hat, with concealed gutters and downpipes. Clad in timber, with large scale windows, the facades have a 360 degree view. Renewable energy supply from wood pellet boiler in the basement. Mundo architecture undertook RIBA workstages 1-3.
