Working within a design & build team, Mulroy improved upon the HOK planning approval for a new 250-cover restaurant at the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew that aims to educate children in the value of healthy eating. Leading the design team, we obtained BREEAM Excellent, a higher environmental rating than the brief required, by various design developments that included reducing the thickness CLT structure to reduce the sizes of the structure and foundations, changing the oil-based polyurethane insulation to a thicker mineral wool insulation to reduce embodied energy and simplifying detailing of the building shell to increase construction speed.
