A two-storey side extension, single-storey rear extension, and front porch were designed to accommodate the needs of an elderly parent who was planning to live with a young family. The project was driven by the diverse requirements of each family member, with grandparents seeking a quiet space to read and enjoy the garden, children desiring an area for watching TV and movies, and parents wishing to entertain guests. The design aimed to provide segregated spaces while still allowing the family to come together in the dining area during meal times. Due to the significant expansion of the property, the extensions required extensive reconfiguration of the existing space. This involved careful planning and adjustments to integrate the new additions seamlessly. The design addresses the specific needs of each family member. For the grandparents, a serene and tranquil area was created where they could read and enjoy the view of the garden. This space provides a peaceful retreat for quiet activities. To cater to the children's desire for entertainment, a dedicated area for watching TV and movies was incorporated. This space allows the kids to have their own recreational area where they can enjoy their favorite shows and films. For the parents, the design emphasizes the ability to entertain guests. This might involve a spacious living area where social gatherings can take place, providing ample room for hosting and creating a welcoming atmosphere for visitors. Despite the segregated spaces, the design also emphasizes the importance of family togetherness. The dining area serves as a central hub where the entire family can gather for meals, fostering shared moments and creating a sense of unity. Given the invasive nature of the extensions, significant reconfiguration of the existing property was necessary. This process involved careful consideration and adjustment of the layout to ensure a harmonious integration of the new spaces with the original structure. Overall, the two-storey side extension, single-storey rear extension, and front porch successfully address the diverse needs of the family members, allowing for segregation of spaces while still providing opportunities for family togetherness during meal times. The design required extensive reconfiguration to harmoniously blend the new and existing spaces, ensuring a cohesive and functional living environment for all.
