The Westgate site forms the keystone in the regeneration of Aldershot town centre. Following previous failed attempts by others to develop the site, Citygrove was appointed as developer in the summer of 2007 and instructed Mountford Pigott. An entirely fresh concept was adopted in the design of the scheme and following a series of successful lettings to key anchor tenants a planning application - which included a significant residential element - was submitted and approved in February 2008. With the onset of the recession the scheme was redesigned to omit the residential component and to introduce a foodstore, and a new full consent was obtained in December 2010. The scheme is fully let and funded by L & G This major development is anchored by a 7250m² Morrisons and PFS, together with a 7-screen multiplex for Cineworld, a 90- bedroom hotel, restaurants and retail units, arranged around a new piazza over a 600-space decked car park.
