New Build
A high density residential scheme on the edge of Blandford St Mary. (130 Dwellings) The project tames the motor vehicle through a series of tight bends with closed views and allows a rich mix of dwellings to address the street. Below this, an earth banked dwelling with a planted roof brings a contemporary feel to the streetscape. The noise of a nearby bypass is screened be an earth bund which, at its highest point, is taken higher still and capped with a gazebo from which the new spaces radiate. Each street, lane or mews has a special character deriving from existing trees retained in the public realm, from focal buildings, from the green, the gazebo and the school – but all reading together with a consistent architectural language of material and motifs. The project won the 2004 North Dorset District Council Design Awards both as their favourite housing scheme and ‘Best overall'. This success was followed by being Highly Commended in the Housing Design Awards 2005.
