Friars is a C16th Grade II listed cottage overlooking flood meadows near St Ives, Cambridgeshire. The brief was to refurbish the original house and extend it to form a four-bedroom house with generous ground floor living accommodation, room for home working and guests, and a master bedroom suite. The extended building was also required to negotiate a change in level, to better connect the house to the rear garden and to address the sunny aspect to the front. The original house was stripped back to the original oak frame, which was carefully repaired, before a full refurbishment including insulation, new windows, re-roofing, and the addition of a new entrance porch and the installation of a modern bathroom.
