Within a Conservation Area
Architect, design team leader from inception, and NEC4 Project Manager to completion, on a scheme to build a new facility for the storage and maintenance of the horse trams for the historic Douglas Bay Horse Tramway. The site was located within the Douglas Promenades Conservation Area, and included obtaining Registered Building Consent for demolition and replacement of the existing horse tram shed. In addition to a new tram shed to accommodate the 12 horse trams, the scheme also included workshop and staff welfare facilities, administration offices, new public areas including a ticket office and washrooms, and a unit to be fitted out as a cafe. The operational areas of the tram shed needed to be accessible by visitors, including wheelchair users and those with limited mobility.
