Alteration to existing property, Within a Conservation Area
Architect and design team leader on a major to design and deliver a major scheme to upgrade, enhance and expand facilities at Douglas Steam Railway Station for the Department of Infrastructure. The project involved the alteration and refurbishment of the well known Ticket Hall building, a Registered Building of cultural and historical significance and a distinctive part of the Douglas North Quay Conservation Area. The client’s objective was to refurbish and upgrade the building and enable it to continue to serve as a heritage railway station, while maximising its commercial potential and improving the visitor experience. The building had to be adapted to accommodate new uses, including expanded restaurant and commercial kitchen, retail areas, and facilitate inclusive access throughout.
