Designed to create flexible lab space combined with office accommodation in an environment that promotes collaboration between industry and education. A high level of consultation with the end users was required to understand and refine the strategic brief and building requirements. In-depth departmental interviews and stakeholder workshops defines their unique lab configurations and map out adjacencies and shared space. The building’s generous structural grid allows for multiple variants of space types e.g.industrial, laboratory and office space. This grid is combined with non load-bearing internal partitions to allow for maximum flexibility and an over-provision of fire escapes supports flexible internal layouts.
