Alteration to existing property
This project involves a site-specific porch and rear extension to an existing dwelling in South Gabriel, designed in direct response to challenging ground conditions and the deteriorated structural state of the property. High groundwater levels had contributed to significant structural deterioration, requiring a carefully considered architectural and engineering strategy. The proposed porch and rear extension were developed to reinforce the existing building while enhancing its functionality and overall appearance. Scale, form and materiality were deliberately aligned with the original dwelling, ensuring the new additions sit comfortably within the traditional character of the home and its surrounding context. Working within strict site constraints and a defined client budget, the design focuses on practical, efficient interventions that maximise value without compromising quality. Where possible, improvements were introduced to refine the internal layout, increase usability and create a more coherent flow throughout the ground floor. The result is a sympathetic and technically robust extension that responds directly to the site’s environmental challenges, preserves the architectural integrity of the existing dwelling and delivers a more functional, comfortable living environment. The client has appointed us to provide full Planning and Building Regulations services for the entire scheme, including site inspections as required throughout the construction process.
