The professional couple who lived in this small Edwardian terraced house loved their home but were not happy with their small and dark kitchen, which did not suit the young family and the foodie dad. The couple were keen to expand into the side passage and add space by linking to a rear extension. However, the local planning precedence for the area was to only allow a maximum of height of 2m at the boundary. This would not allow a direct link to the rear living room adjacent and would create a very cramped space. The planners agreed to our idea of creating a generous head-height by placing an all glass up-and-over roof over the 2m high boundary wall. The wonderful light from the glass roof suffused the whole kitchen and created a wonderful space. A hand-made inner leaf to the flank wall added texture and authenticity to the space.
