The project brief involved assisting the client in designing a side and rear extension to add much needed family space. We offered a turnkey architectural service, from brief up until completion. The client was keen to have a contemporary yet sensitive extension that maximised site conditions and addressed boundary height restrictions in a clever way. This brought about the idea of an asymmetric pitched roof pierced with openable skylights to allow for natural light and ventilation. The Shou Sugi Ban charred larch cladding was chosen for its durability and striking appearance, hereby marking a clear distinction between old and new. The homeowners are a West London based couple with two young children. They wanted the design to be striking and a little different, with a carefully though out layout and clean interiors. A key part of the brief included achieving an open plan kitchen/dining area with play space and ample amounts of storage. We assisted the client with all interior design elements, from colour selection to full kitchen design. We collaborated closely throughout, particularly as they lived at the property throughout the construction period.
