The brief was for a contemporary but minimal design that was as energy efficient and off-grid as was practical. Additional space for wanted for an entrance lobby, utility, extra storage and a large double garage to allow for a control room for renewable energy system controls. Our goal was to develop a contemporary design at the same time as retaining the character of the original open fronted barn. The house is fully wheelchair accessible and is set to achieve an A rating for energy efficiency. Renewable energy systems (GSHP, MVHR, Solar PV) and rainwater harvesting systems were incorporated. Finally, a bat loft was seamlessly integrated for the existing bat roosts.
