Alteration to existing property, Listed Building - Grade II, Sited in AONB, Within a Conservation Area
Millar Howard Workshop Ltd , St Marys Mill , Chalford , Stroud , Gloucestershire , GL6 8NX , United Kingdom
The Mount is a Grade II Listed property in the Cotswolds, nestled in a valley with steep elevations all around in Chalford, near Stroud. Before this extensive renovation project, the property was split over various levels around an overgrown and virtually disused outside courtyard. There was minimal access to the gardens and stunning countryside. The owners met Millar + Howard Workshop by chance and were drawn in by our creative vision. The property had a small and dingy kitchen and was cut off from other areas in the house, so MHW wanted to pull the property together by incorporating the courtyard into the interior layout of the property. This provided a light and central space in the home that connects the other living spaces with year round light and comfort. In addition to this, the clients’ passion for fine wine presented MHW the opportunity to design a controlled temperature wine cellar and tasting room, providing yet another elevation to lifestyle. Millar + Howard Workshop collaborated with a landscape architect to work on making the garden more accessible so that the whole home could sit in the beautiful landscape more comfortably.
