New Build
Located within a UNESCO World Heritage site in northwest Botswana, the Sandibe Lodge provides a unique hospitality experience within the landscape and wildlife of the Okavango Delta. The lodge complex draws its inspiration from the pangolin, a shy and harmless creature able to curl into its own protective shell. The lodge structures quietly appear out of the treeline, clad in timber shingles reminiscent of the pangolin’s armour of overlapping scales. The design was sustainably and ethically driven, encapsulating the surrounding landscape and celebrating the indigenous wildlife. The lodge provides simple yet luxurious accommodation for its guests with uncompromised access to power, running hot water and world-class food and beverages. From 12 private nests, guests can relax and enjoy the views from an open plan living and sleeping area and an external deck encompassing seating and a private plunge pool. The timber pods were lifted from the ground to maximise the views and minimise the physical impact on the site. The main lodge building offers dining, a bar, lounge and library; all positioned on different levels. The boma fire pit acts as a communal meeting point on the forest floor and is formed from huge cut logs of descending size. Design work commenced in May 2013 and the project was completed in August 2014.
