In February 2012 Michael Lyons Architecture were commissioned by the Salisbury Diocesan Board of Education in association with Dorset County Council to design and oversee the construction of the new Sandford St Martin’s Primary School. The project arose from a strategic change in the educational system, from three to two tier. The plan was developed to make the most of the existing infrastructure whilst offering fresh and exciting spaces and a brand new identity. Every classroom has direct access to the outside. The project included a worship area adjacent to the main hall allowing it to be used as a stage for the school, which has a strong performing arts programme. The new primary school was completed in October 2014 and now caters for 420 pupils aged 5 to 11, consisting of 14 class groups. The campus serves the local community through an independent nursery, activity club and worship space.
