Alteration to existing property
Michael Jones Architects , 129 Kew Road , Richmond , Surrey , TW9 2PN , United Kingdom
Full refurbishment and extension of a ground floor flat in a Victorian terraced property. The flat was extended and remodeled to provide more open plan living space. A key part of the brief was to improve the relationship between the flat and its garden, this was achieved by installing large sliding glass doors with level thresholds opening from the new, contemporary kitchen, out onto the rear patio and water pool. The master bedroom, which was previously at the front of the building near a busy road, was re-positioned deeper into the plan to protect it from the noise, but the design retained the possibility of separating off the front part of the open plan space to form a guest bedroom when required. A carefully selected palette of modern and traditional finishes gives the interior of the flat a bright and contemporary feel, whilst retaining the elegance of a traditional property.
