Before he approached us, our client had previously tried to obtain planning permission to extend and convert his large house into flats, without success. The scheme we designed for him proposed retaining the main part of the house and rebuilding the rear part with an additional storey, and further out into the large rear garden. We got planning consent for 5 flats: a 3-bed with it's own rear garden, and two 2-beds and two 1-beds which share a communal garden at the back. The new construction would be insulated timber frame, clad in whitewashed brick and larch boards. The retained parts would be completed rearranged internally and refurbished.
