Following a number of successful office refurbishment projects, we were approached by building services company Lakehouse to redesign their two-storey headquarters in Romford. Our brief was to transform their conventional cellular office into a flexible, open, informal working environment to encourage greater interaction and opportunities to reflect their changing working patterns and business needs. The building was stripped back to the structure and a limited palette of birch-faced ply panels and fin louvres, slate grey flooring, bespoke joinery and exposed services with some yellow surfaces introduced to create a bright, calm office environment. The first phase created a new reception within an atrium that connected the two floors, and provided a newly located boardroom, a large informal working and meeting space including a bespoke free-standing meeting pod and a central accommodation stair. A second phase opened the main work spaces, removing all the cellular offices and dividing screens, and extending the first phase bespoke joinery throughout the building.
