Following a number of successful office refurbishment projects, we were approached by building services company Lakehouse to redesign their two-storey headquarters in Romford. Our brief was to transform their conventional cellular office into a flexible, open, informal working environment to encourage greater interaction and opportunities to reflect their changing working patterns and business needs. The building was stripped back to the structure and a limited palette of birch-faced ply panels and fin louvres, slate grey flooring, bespoke joinery and exposed services with some yellow surfaces introduced to create a bright, calm office environment. The first phase created a new reception within an atrium that connected the two floors, and provided a newly located boardroom, a large informal working and meeting space including a bespoke free-standing meeting pod and a central accommodation stair. A second phase opened the main work spaces, removing all the cellular offices and dividing screens, and extending the first phase bespoke joinery throughout the building. The building remained in occupation throughout the works
