Metropolitan Workshop LLP , 14-16 Cowcross Street , LONDON , EC1M 6DG , United Kingdom
In 2013, Metropolitan Workshop was commissioned to carry out a review of the existing masterplan for Blackwall Reach. In addition to revisiting the masterplan we were also commissioned to design Phase 2 comprising of four buildings replacing the eastern wing of Robin Hood Gardens. We proposed a collaborative approach, working with Haworth Tompkins, to design two buildings of different tenures each. The buildings are arranged as ten storey elements connected by lower rise terraces of a more intimate scale. The stepped profile reduces the impact of the scheme on Cotton Street and provides a high degree of dual aspect housing. Buildings are arranged to allow views from the street into Millennium Green, connecting with the wider area. Daylight and sunlight penetration to the central space and dwellings will be greatly improved.
